THE LIP (AND BEST ADVICE I’VE RECEIVED)

Okay, so I know this is getting off the fashion theme, however, this advice honestly has been a life changer in my work habits, so I feel it’s only fair to share.

I think we can all agree that some days it can be incredibly difficult to get motivated. I run my own business by myself, which involves a multitude of things as well as try to squeeze in a lot of other side projects and travels (which I probably should cut back on, but won’t). However, one day I was listening to a podcast while working and I believe the session was on how to motivate yourself everyday in your business.

The speaker asked the listeners what is the one thing that when you put it on it instantly elevates you and makes you feel more “business-y”.

**Honestly, this may be one of the best
pieces of advice I have yet received,
especially for motivation.**

So as soon as she started talking about this, I got to thinking… Is it wearing heels? Yes, to some extent, but honestly when I’m running around my studio sewing, then running errands, and standing all day long I don’t know how long that would last.

Then I realized, my little trick is a red lip. Or lately, any lipstick does the trick!

There is something about that swipe of lipstick that instantly elevates an entire look.

My entire life I hardly (close to never) wore lipstick. This may have been because (1) having grown up in a small town putting on a full face of make-up was WAY over-doing it and (2) lipstick seemed like something older women put on (I am talking my grandmothers).

However, the more mature I grow personally and in my business, there’s something enhancing about lipstick to a woman’s look and overall air of confidence. And personally, there is nothing more killer than when a woman is rocking a vibrant, rich red lip.

So now when I’m getting ready in the morning and I know I have to get SH*T done that day, I like to add that final touch so when I walk out of my bathroom I say… “Let’s do it.”

I can confidently share with you some of my favorite lipstick shades that really embody and exude that sensual yet modern woman I strive to embody and dress everyday.

Charlotte Tilbury in Pillow Talk (worn in this photo)

I have the lip liner in this color and the texture is just so creamy and smooth then paired with the lipstick is like icing on the cake. I will say that this color is like a nude, but better. There’s something so pretty about how it matches your skin tone so well, but with a touch more pink and adds that sexy feel. Maybe that’s why it’s called Pillow Talk…

NARS in Cruella

This was actually one of the first true red colors I purchased in my life. I was living in Paris at the time and my friend and I went to the NARS counter to get our make up done for a themed party (pin-ups and punks). I didn’t actually even get a red lip there but my friend had hers in this shade and immediately I was in love. This was four years ago and I can still say I’m in love with this shade. The lipstick is matte, but so pigmented and rich.

** If you are looking for any great red, I truly think NARS is where you should begin. Some other favorite reds are Palais Royal and Super and nudes are Anita and Rikugien.

Tom Ford

Let’s take a moment and admire the packaging of all Tom Ford lipsticks, the gold edges and either white or black body. There’s something so luxe about the design. There’s also something so sexy about them because they all have female or male names for the shade color. Come on, what designer is sexier than Tom Ford. My favorite subtle red color is Alejandro.

This is so on point. I’m really not much of a lipstick wearer, but I want to be! Trying some of your recommendations!

You’d be amazed at how much of a different mood it puts you in! I never wore lipstick and then I realized how it made me feel more “put together” and ready for business!

You could not be more right! Putting on a beautiful red lip just elevated the mood. I’ve been loving Fenty Beauty’s red, it makes me feel like I can conquer the world.
